Design Spotlight: Rise of the 'Spathroom'

Updated: Aug 27, 2023

In 2023 bathroom trends, we are seeing the continued rise of more spa-inspired bathrooms or "spathrooms." This particular aesthetic involves looking beyond the functional nature of a bathroom and elevating it to a place of personal sanctuary, luxury, and indulgence. Browse through some of our past remodels to get some zen inspiration for your own dream bathroom.

All photos feature remodels designed and completed by BA Kitchen & Bath Design with countertop supply, fabrication, and installation provided by our sister company next door BA Stone Surfaces. Have a project idea? Get started on an estimate.

Natural Elements & Calming Colors

The goal of any spathroom is to create a space that relaxes the senses and rejuvenates the body. Start with a calming color scheme. Neutral colors like whites and grays provide a solid foundation, and warmer tones are especially on-trend this year. Incorporate nature through wood accents and natural stone tiles. Consider a quartz wall shower with elegant veining reminiscent of tree branches, or place a luxurious freestanding tub near a window to immerse yourself in the outdoors.

Opt for Luxury in Your Shower

The shower is the place to indulge when replicating a spa-type atmosphere. The more spacious the better! Consider a large, walk-in double shower, invest in a quality waterfall shower head, or even install your very own steam shower. Small details like benches, built-in niche storage, and even recessed lighting can add a touch of luxury and elevate your shower to a spa-quality space.

Seating & Fine Details

Remember the idea of a spathroom is that it's more than a standard bathroom in terms of functionality and design. It should be a place to relax even after your daily shower or bath is finished. Consider adding textile, non-traditional bathroom elements like poufs and rugs or even a chaise lounge or seating area if you have the space. Transform your bathroom vanity with ceiling-height cabinetry and a luxurious backsplash. Fine details like hotel-quality towels and robes, a bath tray over the freestanding tub, brushed gold finish faucets and hardware, and a showpiece lighting fixture can bring everything together.
